A Spacer Ring, also called Paddle Spacer, Ring Spacer, or Line Spacer, is an open ring plate installed between two flanges to allow pipeline flow.
Unlike a spade flange, which is a solid blind plate used to block flow, a spacer ring has an open bore that keeps the pipeline in normal operating condition.
Spacer rings are commonly used together with spade flanges. When the pipeline needs to operate, the spacer ring is installed. When the pipeline needs to be isolated, the spacer ring is removed and replaced by a spade flange.
