What is Spade Flange

A Spade Flange, also called Spade Blind, Paddle Blind, or Line Blind, is a solid metal plate used to block pipeline flow.

Unlike a spectacle blind flange, which has one blind side and one open ring side connected together, a spade flange is only the solid blind plate part. It is installed between two flanges when the pipeline needs complete isolation.

Spade flanges are commonly used with a spacer ring. When the pipeline needs to operate normally, the spacer ring is installed. When the pipeline needs to be closed, the spacer ring is removed and replaced with the spade flange.

Advantages of Spade Flange

Positive Pipeline Isolation

The solid blind plate provides complete shutoff for maintenance, inspection, pressure testing, or process shutdown.

Simple Structure

Compared with spectacle blind flanges, spade flanges have a simpler single-plate design and are easy to manufacture and install.

Reliable Sealing Performance

Accurate machining and proper sealing face treatment help reduce leakage risk between flanged joints.

Used with Spacer Ring

Spade flanges are commonly used together with spacer rings, allowing pipeline systems to switch between blocked and open conditions.

Multiple Standard Options

Products can be manufactured according to ASME B16.48, ASME B16.5, ASME B16.47, EN, DIN, JIS, and custom drawings.

Wide Material Selection

Carbon steel, stainless steel, alloy steel, duplex steel, nickel alloy, and customized materials are available.
